Hi guys,
I’m new to shot cut and editing in general I’ll try and give the info the best I can.
I recorded my footage on a GoPro at 5.7k (first mistake)
I have compressed it down to 1080 and edited it in shotcut I’m happy enough with it for my first time with this software I’ve previously been using imove on a phone.
I’ve uploaded it to my YouTube channel and the aspect ratio is wrong even tho when I exported I chose the YouTube option it seems to be 1024.896 instead of 1920.1080
I’ve been back to it and gone
Settings
Video mode
Custom add
The box comes up saying 1920x1080 and 16:9
So it seems correct I click ok then export it again but its the same
Am I missing something?
I’ve put many hours into this and really need to save it
I see that apart from my filters symbol is not next to output like yours I have a tab just above.
Next to the filters tab I have properties in there it shows aspect ratio 1024 896 to see this I have to click on the first segment of the timeline if thatakes sense
That is wrong if you want 16:9 output that fills the frame. It suggests that you shot the video in 8:7, a special GoPro aspect ratio that is suitable for flexibility in editing–but only if you really know what you are doing! So, how do you want to put this square peg into your round hole? This is a frequently discussed problem here. You can remove parts of the image and/or leave some black edges. Please search to read prior discussions. Good luck.
For all clips that will need aspect ratio converted, I recommend that you start with the Crop: Source Video Filter. Apply the filter to your first clip. Then, click “center”. After that, use the copy/paste features in Shotcut to apply the filter to all your clips. Timeline > Apply Copied Filters can do them all in one action.
When it is finally time to export, DO NOT change the output dimensions or aspect ratio. The export will automatically use the video mode settings and if you change them, your export will not match the Shotcut preview.
