How to apply a blur filter over an overlay image

Hello,

I’ve been using Shotcut for a couple of years and have found it very useful in various ways, but I’ve run into issues that took me some time to figure out. But this one has eluded me.

This article might have some elements of what I’m trying to do, but I haven’t figured out how to use them yet.

What I’m trying to do is the following:

  1. V1 has the main video;
  2. V2 has an overlay image;
  3. *** HOW TO ADD A BLUR FILTER ON THE COMBINATION OF V1 AND V2 TO BLUR THE AREA WITH THE OVERLAY IMAGE ? The size of the blur filter has to be larger than the overlay image in order to have a blurred edge around it.

Since I haven’t figured out how to combine these three parts in one pass, I’ve had to produce a first output video with parts 1 and 2, then I run a separate pass to apply the blur filter on the first output video.

I’m currently using Shotcut 24.06 on macOS Monterey.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

You can add the blur filter to the Timeline > Output
You will want to use the Mask: Apply filter if you don’t want to blur the whole image. Maybe start with the Mask:Simple Shape filter to see if that works for you
