Text typing filter?

Hi,

I’m coming at this question from a place of having no video editing talent so please forgive if the answer is obvious. Rather than simply settling for some fixed text in my frame, I’d like it to appear as if it were being typed in. In other words, the text would begin with a single character and then be expanded as if it were being typed. Is there a filter or effect or something I can use to achieve this end result?

There is no typing filter.
It would take to long too explain the different methods you can use to create a typing effect.
This is a project using two simple methods for creating a typing effect.

@jonray That is pretty ingenious. There is another way with no need for Auto HotKey, or OpenOffice or even Office. Below, a very simple html file that you open in your browser (no need for webvfx).
