Text typing filter?

Hi, I’m coming at this question from a place of having no video editing talent so please forgive if the answer is obvious. Rather than simply settling for some fixed text in my frame, I’d like it to appear as if it were being typed in. In other words, the text would begin with a single character and then be expanded as if it were being typed. Is there a filter or effect or something I can use to achieve this end result? Thank you in advance.
