been experimenting a little bit with transitions between cuts. realized it’s quiet hard to decide when to add a transition or not and what transition would best fit.
are there any recommendations/guidelines/tips to help decide & choose ?
Personnellement dans cet exemple de vidéo je n’aurais fait aucune transition. Il n’y a pas de changement ni temporel ni de sujet. J’aurais juste mis un fondu au noir en entrée et en sortie.
Personally in this video example I would not have made any transition. There is no change in time or subject. I would have just put a fade to black in and out.
I agree with Namna on the transitions. I don’t think you should have any except maybe a fade in/out for the beginning and end but that would be it.
Each of your clip durations is just right as it keeps your attention. I’ve been watching travel blogs and notice they do the same thing, so I’ve tried to incorporate some of that in my family videos as well.
Thanks Namna & Neuner for the recommendations. really appreciate.
i captured that transitions are really only to “enforce” a major change of time/location/subject. will keep that in mind for future edits.
it’s sometimes hard to understand insights about how to edit a video, one would tend to try all the gadgets & tricks. your advices are of great value.
tried to account for your recommendation, but found a compromise that seems pleasing by adding transitions only between “moving” shots and “static” shots, to outline the change and enforce the static shots.
see this example:
do you think it makes sense ? or is it still “too much” ?
Hi @effel - Great job.
For me, the mix of cuts and fades is pretty much perfect. Much better! Plus - you used the “Seriously Classy” effect for the video title - a collaboration between myself and @musicalbox. Way hey!!
@effel, great scenery. Best viewed on YouTube itself in 1080p. (When I first watched the video on the forum it was set to 360p - inferior quality. Changed via the “cog” icon below the video, for anyone who doesn’t know this).
I think you did a great job. I think most people overdo transitions. As much as I like transitions, I tend to do more hard cuts than anything else. There is no handbook for transitions, so it’s more of an art than a science.
Nice video. I do similar things for Swiss walks and days out. I tend to only use transitions between the the actual activity and me doing any talking to camera.

As people have said you don’t want to over do it and you seem to hit it spot on.
