Where to start exactly, and correctly in order to master ShotCut software and use it professionally, so I can produce professional level videos and make use of the software efficiently.
Sorry if it is a dummy question but thought to ask for guidance before getting lost in my own.
I also recently got started (using Shotcut to put together videos for our covers of songs), so this is definitely a newbie perspective. I do all audio processing in my DAW (Ardour) and export a high-quality lossless file (usually FLAC or WAV). Then we record the video while playing the exported audio. Shotcut is then used to merge the video with the high-quality audio.
Rather than figuring out all of the bells and whistles within Shotcut (and there are lots!), I focused on what I needed to get done:
Import video
Import audio
Mute video’s audio track
Align high-quality audio with video’s audio track
Do fade-in and fade-out on the video
Ensure high-quality export
The first 2 steps are pretty easy: “Open File” → Find file → Drag into Timeline. The third step is also easy (just hit mute on the video track). The fourth is accomplished by right-clicking on the high-quality audio track and clicking “Align with reference track” and selecting the video as the reference. Step 5 is easy enough - hover over the top-left edge and top-right edge of the track and it will show a black circle. Drag from there “inwards” (to the right from the left edge or to the left from the right edge) to setup a fade-in and fade-out. Step 6 is still a work in progress for me - the defaults are certainly fine enough for my use case, but I’m playing with the export settings now.
Obviously, your steps will likely differ from mine, unless you’re doing the exact same thing I am. I think the biggest thing I learned is to not dive all in at once to learn everything about it (I applied this to my DAW as well, for the same reason). I learn the minimum amount necessary to achieve what I want to do, knowing that I can dive deeper once I’m more comfortable. This approach has certainly served me well so far, as I just got started with Shotcut and have figured out enough to release high-quality videos
I wish OP had given more details about what they are planning to do (or at least what kinds of videos they want to create) - my kind of usage is very different from e.g. making full-length feature films or something, so the advice of where to start and how much to learn will vary so much depending on what the final goal is.
