I have been trying to import *.srt subtitles to help friends follow the film better.
They do appear on a line above my time line, in blue blocks.
BUT when I launch the video the subtitles don’t appear on my control screen.
What am I doing wrong? ( my SHOTCUT version is 24 )
And how on earth if I get rid of 2 thirds of the film do I also get rid of the corresponding subtitles? I can’t even select more than one block at a time. The film lasts an hour and I just can’t erase each block individually, it would take me ages.
This line is confusing. I guess English is not your native language. I guess you mean they do not appear in the video. By default subtitles are embedded in the export file and the media player lets the viewer choose whether to see the subtitles. This is the way that 99.999% of videos before 2020 were made–for the hearing impaired or different languages. But since around 2017 people feel the need to put their text into the actual video imagery and impose that decision and its choice of language on all viewers. I think it had to do with the rise of watching social media videos on smart phones with the volume turned off.
I suppose you would recommend burning the subtitles once and for all into the video. I understand that my friends won’t then have any choice of opting out of subtitles. Right O then.
PS: Yes, you’re quite right, my native language is French !
