Is it possible to integrate third-party VST plugins? I want to spruce up my background audio with some cool drum effects. But I am not sure if there is an easy workaround to this.
Tbh, it would be great to do some lightweight audio editing (effects and such) on a video editing software.
Any help would be much appreciated.

There are audio filters and you can create audio-only tracks. You should be more specific about what audio edits you want to do - it may already be possible in Shotcut.
Reaper offers a suite of FREE incredible VST plugins, one of which allows you to do precise noise reduction. 100% agree that having VST filter support in Shotcut would be awesome.
