Can you repeat the problem? If so, what are the steps?
Yes, by upgrading from version 22.12.22 (which shows videos OK) to 24.11.17 (which will not show video, the same files) Playbar shows video is running yet screen IS blank.
How did you install it? 24.11.17 does work in general, but I do not test the distro packages or help with them.
It is also possible that your video driver’s OpenGL fell out of compatibility. You can try changing Settings > Display Method.
24.11.17 was downloaded from the site both as an .appimage and a .txz I checksumed them OK. I have downloaded the appimage several times over the last month or two. Earlier version Appimaged worked fine also. I reverted back to the distro version after the latest version would not show video, just a blank screen.
I have just done the setting>Display method to software (Mesa) and back to GL. Both settings still fail to display video.
I just happened to run across this related post when looking for something else.
No version 24.anything plays video on my system. Versions 23.anything do. I have down loaded Appimages and run them until I get a working version. V 23.. work V24.. do not. I have taken a screen shot of four of them but see any way of attaching it here.
OK, I believe you, but I am sorry to report that I will not be able to fix it. Your situation is extremely rare, and I cannot reproduce it on multiple systems with differing distros. On reviewing the changes around 2023 - 2024, I see nothing to explain it–same Qt version for AppImage/portable/snap, and our video display code for Linux has not changed substantially since 23.05.
