What is the version of Shotcut (see Help > About Shotcut), and what OS are you using?
Shotcut v24.06.26 on Windows 11
If it is a crash, is it repeatable? Does it only occur in your project, or can you make it occur starting fresh?
Always happens, in every project.
What are the steps to reproduce the problem? Consider making a screencast video to demonstrate it.
Create or open project
Add .wav stereo files, e.g. a narration, to audio track.
Play project video.
.wav files convert from stereo to mono audio. Check properties > audio for the .wav and you will see Channels: “1 (independent)” instead of “2 (stereo)” as it should be. It affects exported videos too.
Or, what are the set of conditions under which it occurs? Is there another condition under which it does not occur? That can be an extremely helpful detail.
It occurs only with .wav audio files, but not with .mp3 audio files.
If you still have a previous version or can recall from memory… is this problem new with the version you are reporting?
It only occurs in version 24.06.26, in previous version (24.04.28) it doesn’t happen.
If your audio properties show Channels: 1 (independent), your WAV file is mono. If you don’t have access to obtain a stereo version of that file, there is an audio filter to duplicate the mono channel for both left/right channels.
That is a bad description of the problem, which is why I found this confusing and did not accept it as a bug. Stereo is not being downgraded to mono. The problem is that mono WAV files may not be automatically repeating its single channel across both channels of a stereo setup (Settings > Audio Channels) as mentioned here:
