Creating text over multiple montage pics

I’m creating a montage using many photos. Each photo will display for 5 seconds and I’m overlapping them to create a dissolve transition. I’d like to have text appear over several of the photos as a way of introducing each section of the montage and I’m wondering if someone could tell me how I could achieve this. I’ve tried to create a separate video track but there’s no way to put a text filter into the empty space. I’ve also tried to combine the photos/transitions so the text would appear lon…

Also, you may like to look at this short video I just made (see below). No commentary, but it shows how I added titles to my video, and it should give you a good idea of how it works.
Each of the pink “boxes” has 2 filters, opacity (set to zero) and a text filter. You can position and resize the text just how you like using the text boundary box in the text filter. I have added a fade in and fade out to each box but you don’t have to. Also I have overlapped my text boxes but again, not necessary - you can have the subtitles just on one track. Hope it helps.
