Size, Position & Rotate, constrain to n axis

Hi again,

I have found my enquiry posed in one thread only but it was never answered, only workarounds proposed.

I often take videos that are horizontal and have to prepare them for Instagram (vertical). I increase the size so it fills the vertical axis but I have to then move the video horizontally to keep the subject centred. It would be really cool to be able to constrain the dragging movement to a particular axis using, for example, Ctrl + Drag for the X axis and Alt + Drag for the Y axis or maybe just holding down Ctrl and dragging constrains movement to 0° or 90° only.

This could also be achieved by “locking” an axis as shown here :pray:

I appreciate there may be other ways to achieve this, but it would be nice to have this as a feature.

Thank you in advance!

OK, here are more workarounds because the suggestion might never happen (more is often not better due to clutter, communications confusion, maintenance, and potential for more bugs–when there are existing means):

a) turn on the player grid overlay with snapping (defaults on)
b) change the numeric fields instead of interactively dragging the video control

Hi @BeretGascon , +1 for this. Keyboard modifiers for this would be great. Also I like the idea being able to lock an axis.

Just to add to @shotcut’s tip of using the grid as a workaround:

Add ANOTHER SPR filter;
Set the grid to 2 x2 (snapping on);
Use the 1st SPR filter to resize/position the object;
Use the 2nd SPR filter to move the object vertically or horizontally.
I made his super-quick demo - (no commentary):
