TLDR version:
I am looking to see if there is an option that 1) does not have the limitations of the flatpak version, 2) does not use snaps (since I am trying non-Ubuntu distros), and 3) does not have to be manually downloaded whenever a new update is made available.
The Fedora repository version of Shotcut appears to be the very latest (25.10.31). Perhaps it would fit these requirements … ? But as I understand it, it is not considered an “official” version - is that correct?
Back story if it helps:
I am continuing to explore Linux distros - I had used Ubuntu for more than a decade, but switched to Debian a year or so ago. I recently got a new Lenovo laptop that was available with either Ubuntu or Fedora; I went with Ubuntu … but due to some issues with the microphone input (dc offset / no dynamic range), I am exploring other distros to see if that makes a difference.
I have Fedora 43 set up to dual-boot with the currently-installed Ubuntu 24.04. Initial impressions - wow! I like it. No, it hasn’t solved the microphone issue.
I am still searching for possible ways to address that. To be clear, the microphone works just fine in terms of sound quality; it is just that it produces an odd audio wave that shows up in Shotcut without any dynamic range.
