Shotcut Challenge: Circular progress bar

While searching for something on the forum I stumbled on an old thread showing how to do a cool text effect that can also be used to create a circular progress bar.

I had completely forgotten that thread, and I guess I’m not the only one. I think this method deserves more visibility, hence the creation of this Shotcut challenge.

I added a few things here and there to the original method and came up with these two variations:

You only need Shotcut filters. So I didn’t use Glaxnimate, HTML, or any other external application.
Also, no need to pre-export file(s) or to apply a chroma key or a blend mode filter.
Both variations use exactly the same filters with different settings.

Only two tracks needed. One for the background image (or video) and one for the progress bar and the counter.

As always, you can show your results here, but don’t explain your methods yet. And if you know what is the forum thread I mentioned above, don’t reveal it. Credits will be given to the original poster in due time.

Here’s my test, I followed the rules, so I didn’t use Glaxnimate, HTML or any other external application.

Excellent @Namna.

Excellent @Namna. I had a feeling it wouldn’t take you too long to figure out the method. Good idea to make the counter appear before the circles.

How many tracks did you use?

Au début, 4 ! :rage:

Cool challenge, Maestro Musicalbox! I’d like to have a go but I’m not sure if I can find the time. Maybe tomorrow if I can find a short break in family Christmassy preparations…
BTW in true fashion for my way of thinking, my first inclination would indeed involve exporting files and blend mode filters, but I will try to do it without, if possible.
Thank you for continuing the “Forum Challenge” idea. I like it. :+1:

Cool, @namna!

I found 5 minutes… however I broke every rule… used 2 mix-downs, and a blend mode filter… plus a few other illegal things… so it probably won’t count. I going off to stand on the naughty step. Didn’t have time to do the solid version either, sorry…

That looks pretty good @jonray

Well, breaking the law is a felony… Sorry, but you give me no choice…

I attempted to use a square format and I believe this is the reason the sweep finishes after about 9.5 seconds rather than 10. (the conical PNG is rectangular in size, not square)

I think we didn’t use the same filters Mr Elusien.

2 Tracks 7 filters on one clip, 6 filters on the other.

Euhhh, c’est quoi un PNG conique ?

Uhhh, what is a conical PNG?

@Elusien
Ok, track V1 for me is for the background clip. No filter on that clip.
The one and only clip on track 2 have 4 filters applied to it.

@MusicalBox
Comptez vous les fade-in et fade-out ?

Do you count the fade-in and fade-out?

I think Elusien mean this kind of image, used as a matte file:
conical

I didn’t use any fades. I used the Opacity option in the Text filter, with keyframes.

Rumbled… I used that for mine… :upside_down_face:

Here’s another variant. Still using 2 tracks, but one additional filter on the V2 clip for the blue border. And a SP&R filter on the V1 clip to animate the background.

The penny dropped!
2 tracks, top track has 4 filters. Bet they are the same as yours, @musicalbox. Now all I have to do is to stop the timer from jumping…

Now that is very cool.
