Shotcut Android Watermark

I am suddenly seeing the “shotcut ai video editor” watermark at the bottom right corner of my screen and i cannot remove it. I did pay for a year of Shotcut Elite and everything was fine until a couple of days ago.

I’m on an Android phone, Rev 1.0

Shotcut version 1.80.0 (1238)

I know this is confusing. But the andriod application you are using is a different application with the same name as this one. The application that this forum serves is a desktop application. It can be downloaded here:

The Shotcut you are looking for is here:

Thank you, Brian
I do not own a descktop, or a laptop.
I screenshotted some info on the app I have. Are you saying they used the Shotcut name fraudulently? If so, I will cancel and uninstall.

I do not know if they committed fraud. But we used the name first, and it has caused confusion for users like you.

It is up to you if you keep or install the andriod app. If you want to keep using it, and seek help with your issue, there is an e-mail address listed in your screenshot: support-shotcut-android@shotcut.app

I have requested Google to remove this Shotcut from Play Store for trademark violation citing the claims on our web site since its publication several years prior to the Android app. But they declined to remove since our trademark is not registered. And if it is registered, it would only be in the USA.

Prior to this, I had successfully campaigned to have Google Search remove ads including the word “Shotcut.” There are commercial video editors from competitors trying to lure people looking for us. It took a few months of correspondence and documentation only to be informed it will only be enforced in the USA. I cited this in my case about Play Store app, but it did not help. All this effort, and it does not cover Bing, and numerous other sites, services, and countries.

I have also had to chase down people copying the software but changing the name and logo and not complying with our GPL free/open source software license—but only on the 2 major app stores: macOS official and Microsoft official.

Thank you so much, Brian and Dan, for taking the time to explain all this.

It is shameful that this company is using your name. And they are about to get a one-star rating and a piece of my mind at the Google Play Store.

It’s unfortunate because they did create a great editing app for phone users like myself. But they didn’t need to steal your name.

Thank you again for the details. <3
