Shorts/Reel "cut off" on left and right sides?

Greetings

Thanks in advance!

Problem with sizing for Facebook reels, YOutube shorts

  1. I made this video here: https://youtube.com/shorts/0_rTvmlwkR4?feature=share But the video is “Cut off” on the left and right sides.
2.How do I re-encode to fix this problem?

It is common to cut-off the sides to reformat into a tall/vertical video that fills (or nearly) the 9:16 frame. You are not supposed to put a wide, landscape into a short/reel. Scroll down the page for the link you shared. Most of them are full vertical videos.

Honestly, for that video, you might want to think about making a new video project in a 9:16 vertical aspect ratio and position things accordingly for that. Otherwise, the platforms are going to demote your video.

Can you paste a tutorial how I would resize my video to make it compatible with shorts/reels?

HEre is updated link

The video on my PC – NOT YOUTUBE – displays fine.

STrange isnt it?

You need to start by choosing the correct Video Mode for your project.

At the bottom of this post, you can find many other forum posts, where others have learned about the Video Mode

Changing the Video Mode after making multiple edits is risky, and Shotcut warns of this.

I can only guess that you went into Export → Advanced and changed settings.
There is a warning before you click on Advanced.

Knowing what Video Mode you need before you start is vitally crucial, and often misunderstood. Once the Video Mode is set, there is no need to enter into Export → Advanced unless you know what you are doing.

Guessing from your very first post, a vertical Video Mode is needed.
Most likely, you’ll need to start a new project from that vertical Video Mode.
