I recorded footage for a video, spliced it to time it right, and added keyframed filters, but now I’m realizing the recordings were at too low of a resolution, so my plan was to use the replace feature to replace that footage with identical footage in the correct resolution. For example, if a clip starts 13 seconds into a recording, I expected that replacing it will also cause the new recording to start 13 seconds in. It doesn’t; it always starts back at 0 seconds. The information about when in the footage the clip starts must be stored somewhere, so is there a workaround for this? Let me know if I need to clarify. Thanks!
It starts from the in point in the Source player, and the in point defaults to 0. You need to change it. It is very rare to have the same footage starting at the exact same time.
Thanks for responding. Is there a way to determine when in the footage the clip starts? That would make this process really easy, since I can just line up the start of the source file before I replace. Right now, I only see how long the original footage is and how long this specific clip is in the timeline (see attched). Besides that, my next best guess would be to align the new clip on the timeline on a different track to the frame, do math to get when the starting time should be, and then replace after adjusting the source. I’d like to avoid all that if possible since I have a lot to redo.
Actually, I remembered an extremely easy workaround. I’m not using proxies, so I can just rename the original files and we should be all good. I would still like to know how to do this in case I only want to replace some clips from one original footage.
Copy the timeline clip. Then, switch to the Source player and go to the in point. Copy the time code.
