Multicam editing

I know this topic comes up from time to time but wondered where there were any update techniques. I often use two cameras for my projects. Same event, two different views. I’ve mostly done picture-in-picture rather than a multicam scene switch.

Since AFAIK, ShotCut does not have multicam capability, the technique I’ve seen that seems to make the most sense to scene switch seems to be (after syncing the two tracks)

  1. Main video on Track 2
  2. “Switch to” video on Track 1.
  3. An invisible Track 3.

Split out pieces of Track 2 as needed and move them to Track 3. You can delete them, but saving them in Track 3 lets you make changes.

Does this technique still make sense or are there better options? Any good tutorials?
