Help with photo slideshow procedure

Hi there!

I used to work with Proshow Gold, but my very old version can’t do 4K and I got a new pc this week, so here I am. This software looks so promising, but I find it complicated to use (I’m not familiar with video editing).

I make wedding slideshow.
They have a short graphic intro (names, date) with an audio background, and then 2 songs. It’s alway less than 10 minutes and around 100 pictures (with different resolutions, but quite big).

Now, with PG things where simple: you put everything on the timeline, and you can adjust in block or singularly for length and transition. I put on the timeline the songs too, one after the other, and based on that I adjusted the amount and duration of pictures.

Basically, slides in intro have variable duration (quick), slides on first song have Duration B, slides on second song may have Duration B or C (slower). Ending slide has different duration.

I don’t know from the start how many images will go in the slideshow: I have a selection I start with, but add and subtract and change slides’ order multiple times as I go along. Same for length of single slide and length of transition.

But here, once things are on the timeline, they are very difficult to adjust. Program crashed twice in 5 minutes: I’m clearly doing it all wrong.

So what kind of procedure would you recommend I follow to have things work for me? Do you need to see an old slideshow of mine? I know my English is not helping me…

They are very very VERY simple things, I can’t believe I can’t find my way around it. Thank you for your help!

That would help a bit, yes.

I’m not sure if you have seen this documentation:

You will want a different workflow if you use Shotcut.

Here is what I suggest:

  1. Put all the images in the playlist
  2. Use the playlist to put the images in order (did you know you can “play” the playlist?) and remove images
  3. When you feel good about the number and order of images, select them all and launch the slideshow generator
  4. Choose the transition settings and duration
  5. Generate the slideshow
  6. What to change something? Delete the entire slideshow and go back to #2 above.
  7. Keep regenerating the slideshow until you are happy with the result

Hi @brian, I think I’ve missed this feature. How do you play the playlist?

Thank you Brian! I was getting the vibe that my approach was the problem… I honestly don’t know how much I can work around it, let’s say it’s a brain issue!
The software is awesome, I’ll try again the way you advise.

To Vaxiivlkee: this is an old one https://photos.app.goo.gl/duKGAAXh2MdFj3hZ6

Right click on a playlist item and choose “Go to”. This will open up the entire playlist in the player with a number indicator between each clip.

Thanks, @brian - it works fine! Never realised you could do that. Can I just ask why that is named “GoTo”? I’m sure there is a good reason - just can’t think why it is called that. Must be missing something …

If you choose “Go to” on the 3rd clip in the playlist, it will open the playlist in the player and then start playing from the start of the 3rd entry.

Ah, I see, so as in “Go to the 3rd clip”. Makes sense now!
