Help with Making Subtitles Always Visible on MKV Clip for Social Media

Hi everyone,

I’m working with an MKV file that has one subtitles track (it’s not burned in). I would like to create a clip from a portion of this file, but I need the subtitles to always be visible in the final video. My goal is to use the clip for social media.

Could anyone guide me on how to do this in Shortcut? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Here are some steps that should work:

  1. Open your clip
  2. Open the “Properties” panel.
  3. In the Properties hamburger menu, choose “Extract Subtitles…” - save the extracted file
  4. Drag the clip to the timeline
  5. Make sure the timeline cursor is on the first frame
  6. Open the “Subtitles” panel
  7. In the Subtitles hamburger menu, choose “Import Subtitles From File”
  8. Choose the file you extracted in step #3
  9. In the Subtitles hamburger menu, choose “Burn in Subtitles on Output”. This will add a Burn-in filter on your Timeline Output
  10. Edit the burn-in filter paramters to suite your taste (color, position, etc)
  11. Export

It would be good to read the subtitle documentation before you start:
