Copying tracks

When I want to add lyrics or subtitles to a video, I add a video track, V2, Open Other> Color (transparent), drag it to the timeline. Then I add 1 or 2 more video tracks V3 & V4. I want to copy/paste the transparent track to them, so I copy V2. When I select V3, I can only select the header, not the body of the track, I guess because there is nothing there yet, and when I try to paste to V3, it adds the copied V2 to the end of V3, instead of overwriting. Is there an easier way of copying tracks that I’m missing?

Thanks Brian

Selecting a track is different than selecting the clips in a track. You need to use clip multi-select because selecting a track does not select its clips—by design. A track is a different object than a clip and has its own properties and filters.

There appears to be no interest currently in adding a ā€œCopy/Duplicate Trackā€ feature to Shotcut which, in my opinion, is a shame, but there’s obviously a development schedule for this project and that, in addition to the time and expertise available to the dev team, has to be taken into consideration.

I didn’t have any clips in the track yet, just the transparent color from ā€˜Open Other’. Anyway, it’s not a big deal to create extra color tracks. When you insert the color clip onto the timeline it’s a short block, and I thought I needed to have the color clip extend all the way throughout the video when I inserted it, but it’s actually better if it’s short since the lyrics/subtitles are constantly changing, and I actually DON’T want the clip extending the whole length of video (duh).

Thanks for all your help everyone.
