I often convert sources to a friendly format, but each time I have to change the settings to those that suit me personally. This is not very convenient. I suggest making the shotcut program remember the last settings I applied, or give the ability to save new settings as default. Thanks in advance.
Do you mean everything in the Advanced section of the Convert dialog, or only the quality/size option?
If you include Advanced, things get very messy because much of what is defaulted depends on the clip and project attributes and possibly the reason for automatically opening the dialog. Now, it is debatable which ones should be saved/sticky. Also, things like Use sub-clip are only likely to be used on occasion and can lead to unexpected behavior especially if you do not choose to Keep Advanced open.
If you include the quality/size slider then it de-emphasizes the default, which is strongly recommended for most users. It is very easy for the novice or infrequent user to choose “best,” forget about that, and now quickly consume massive amounts of space on their drive leading to frustration and anger.
There are only several options for good reason, and it is not much effort to adjust a couple for the current situation.
I’ll try to explain what I mean.
When I start working on a project, I can add many different videos during the process, at different times. Very often I use the frame rate conversion function, which means that each time I have to click on the “override frame rate” checkbox, select the 60fps I need and select the desired frame rate conversion mode (which draws frames, making the video smoother). I would be glad if at least within one project, shotcut remembered the settings that I chose earlier, I would not have to change these three parameters manually each time. Otherwise, I have to click these options again every time. I realize that the default options are universal, but I would like shotcut to remember my last choice. in this window.
Maybe a different workflow would be better for you. Try this workflow to convert the files in a batch:
- Open all the files that you might use for your project in the playlist (File->Open and then select multiple)
- Open View > Resources and select all the files that you want to convert
- Click “Convert Selected”
- When the convert dialog opens, choose your options and click “OK”
- Wait for all the files to convert
- Start editing your project - choosing the converted videos from the playlist
This option is convenient when all the source material is already there and I don’t plan to add new ones. Probably many people work this way. I add sources to the project as I find them somewhere, it’s rare that everything is already there at once.
