You should be able to use motion tracking.

Here is a video giving instructions on how to do what you asked:

Hi thank you very much, i actually done this video today, but must have done something wrong as followed instructions and my shortcut is up to date, but when i got to end to play the blur section stayed in the same place as i played entire video, I was frustrated as i had spent 3 hours trying to do this and I hit save on top title bar but blurred out circle didnt not follow face moving? Dont know why either? Any help much appreciated thank you for quick reply :+1:

Hi @dcdd1

The tutorial suggested by @PoisonedSlice is good, but a little outdated. In recent versions of Shotcut there are two filter sets provided in the Sets category that can be used to prevent having to duplicate the video clip.

  • Obscure With Blur
  • Obscure With Mosaic

If you used the Motion Tracker filter, sometimes the keyframes generated are not automatically loaded in the other filter. If that happens, save your project and exit/relaunch Shotcut. Then re-open the project and try to load the keyframes again.

Thank you for your help i have sat for nearly 4 hours today trying to do this exactly as you have kindly posted video etc waited so long and when i played the ‘motion detection green box’ followed only part the way and then stopped, i deleted and done over again and again, with same result … i dont know what else to do the only thing i can think is the file is mp4 originally, I then put time a time and date stamp on,after complete the file is M4V thats what i havev normally put into shotcut and all is fine normally. I wonder if this is why? I truly need help and videos posted here are great help.

Maybe i should just try mp4 file only? Help please :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

Maybe the tracker is loosing the face at some point
You could try to cut (split) the video near the point where the green rectangle stops following the face.
Then do 2 tracking. One for the first part and one for the second part.

Thank you thats is whats happening tracker is losing face it happened because as i was talking in video my hand moved up in front of tracker and the tracker must of been then following my hand and moved of the persons face , if that makes sense?

Hi im still trying to do this and keep getting a popup attached why?

tracking fail, then I will try with image sequences cut parts, orthodox method!
