I’m using Shotcut 26.10.3 on Ubuntu 24.04, with 8G of RAM.
I’m encountering the “Shotcut crashes when dragging to timeline” problem.
The problem occurs when I open a certain mp4 video and try to drag it to the timeline. The Shotcut window closes abruptly, and re-opens a few seconds later with the video absent, as if I hadn’t opened it.
Here is a list of what I tried and changed nothing to the problem :
-
Removing Hardware Decoder in Preview Scaling
-
Using a Proxy (this seems to have no effect other than printing “Proxy is ON at 540p”, unlike normal, working mp4 files where it launches a job for proxy and creates new files on my system. Here, no job appears in the list and no files are created).
-
Exporting the original mp4 as another mp4 from inside Shotcut, hoping Shotcut might fix anything that’s wrong. The exported video has the same problems as the original.
-
Using Properties > Convert > Edit-Friendly. With this new version of the video, Shotcut still crashes and re-opens a few seconds later, and this time the video is still there. But Shotcut still refuses to create a timeline for the video, so that’s not much progress.
The video is about 2 hours long (not very long, is it ?), its size about 2.5 GB (not much, is it ?) and plays fine in VLC.
The Shotcut-exported version is slightly smaller (2.3 GB), while the Shotcut-Edit Friendly-version is around 9.2 GB.
Any ideas ?
