What happens running two instances of Shotcut?

My idea is to start one instance in which I will render a clip and then start another instance to work on an entirely different clip. Is that advisable or rather a no-no?

I do it sometime, when I quickly need to export a subset/excerpt of a video or need to join 2 videos to import in the first opened project.
I never got a problem, even though my computer is 10 years old…

I recommend to do a Ctrl+S (Save) on your first project before opening a second instance of Shotcut, though, just in case.

Thank you for the advice. I tried it and it worked well.

Is render the same of export, correct ?
I use it a lot … start a new render/export and close the project and open a new one to working in parallel to preview video edition … works fine to me

I had up to 4 instances at the same time with no issues, so it should be fine.

Why 4? 1 was exporting a long video, so it was there in the background for like 2 hours, and 2 other instances were used to copy paste clips from and merged into another Shotcut instance to make a quick “highlights” video from those 2 projects. Had absolutely no issue.

I also frequently use 2 instances like you mention: one to export a video in the background and another working on a separate edit.
