I have all youtube projects on a second hard disk in the computer.
It is ext3 file system.
The path to this hard drive is:
/media/andreas/Youtube/
Every time I want to load the old project in shotcut, it does not find it. I hit the project in the list in shotcut, but it tells it doesn’t find it!
Every time I need to open the folder in ubuntu, copy the path and paste it into the file open dialog in shotcut. There is no possibility to find this second hard disk in the file open dialog in ubuntu! Only the copy Paste works!
Suggestions:
It should always be possible to load old projects, also from second hard disk.
It should be possible to show other hard disks in the file open dialog.
On Linux software does not know or need to do anything special for an external drive properly mounted. We do not make the file dialogs; it comes from Qt on Snap.
I’m not sure why you had that problem. I regularly use NAS mounts. You can also drag a project file onto the Shotcut player to open it, or use the included Files panel.
I could open the project I copied to there. However, I am on Pop!_OS 22.04, based on Ubuntu 22.04. I do not think there is anything we can do about what has been reported here.
Maybe the problem with the external drive is that the drive goes to sleep or somehow offline, and when you navigate to it using the file manager in Ubuntu it wakes or remounts it.
Good hint. I tried again, if I open that hard disk in file explorer in ubuntu and let it open - shotcut also finds that hard disk and project can be loaden from the previous projects list.
This process also mounts a drive that hasn’t been mounted yet. It sounds like plugging an external drive into the computer isn’t enough to auto-mount it. That would explain why the files were inaccessible until the drive was mounted.
