Transition handles

The video " New Feature - Cross-fades and Transitions!" states that it is possible to create handles for video transitions, but does not actually detail how that works. I have opened up the adjacent clips from the timeline in source, adjusted the in and out points to provide handles. How to apply the handles to the timeline clip?

Or perhaps the issue is this: the handles may be there but dragging does not create a transition, just slides the in/out point along the timeline. How to create the transition?

Searching the forum I learned that ripple delete needs to be disabled. Now it is working fine and I can create dissolves centered on the existing cut without having to slide clips around. Nice!
