Timeline fails to auto-scroll with playhead during playback (Scrolling settings ignored)

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing an issue where the timeline view does not auto-scroll or follow the playhead during playback. Once the playhead moves beyond the visible area of the screen, the timeline view remains static, requiring me to manually drag the scrollbar to follow it.

Steps I have tried to resolve this:

  1. Changed settings in Settings > Timeline > Scrolling to all available options (Page, Smooth, and Center the Playhead). None of them worked.

  2. Toggled the “Center the Playhead” icon on the Timeline toolbar (and tried the shortcut Ctrl + Shift + P).

  3. Clicked inside the timeline to ensure UI focus before starting playback.

  4. Adjusted the timeline zoom slider to force a canvas redraw.

Expected behavior: The timeline should automatically scroll or keep the playhead centered/visible during playback.

Actual behavior: The playhead moves off-screen while the timeline view stays frozen on the initial position.

System Info:

  • Shotcut Version: 26.8.1

  • OS: Windows 11

Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This does not reproduce. I suggest to uninstall and reinstall or install the new version.

Shotcut version 26.9.27 → Unfortunately, the problem persists.

Note: The current red-colored cursor is very poor and causes eye strain.

+ When undoing an action, the program stops working and closes automatically.

When I first tried out the new version of Shotcut, I encountered similar issues. The timeline was acting strangely, with unexpected jumps and so on… and it even crashed when I added content to the timeline.

However, selecting “Settings / Reset…” from the drop-down menu resolved all the issues. Now everything is running smoothly and as expected.

Unfortunately, it was of no use.
