After creating a subtitle track, then selecting “Generate Text on Timeline”, it is impossible to change the duration of each text clip by dragging.
(Actually, that is not QUITE true - I just realised you can shorten the clips, but not lengthen them past the duration of the original subtitle).
I think it would be useful to be able to be able to extend the lengths of the clips, for example, in a use-case where you copy a row of text clips and want to “tweak” their positions slightly.
In other words, could the text clips generated have exactly the same properties as regular text clips? Thanks for considering!
@brian, I was just wondering … I don’t know how relatively easy or hard it would be do code, but having snappable subtitle clips would be a real bonus. I know you are busy right now though, it’s just a suggestion.
Hi @brian, my first inclination is to say that it isn’t… however I just tried a quick test and yes, there does seem to some snapping evident… however, it does seem quite hit and miss to be honest, and also there seems to be a quite low snapping movement threshold … could you have a look at this short demo I made?
Sometimes I can’t quite tell if the clip is snapped or not… and at the end of the video I try out snapping a regular clip, where there is a marked difference in snapping behaviour. The regular clip is much more markedly “magnetized” when a certain distance away from the other clip or playhead.
I was using v. 25.01.03. Thank you very much for looking into it.
The title of this topic is about “Generate Text on Timeline”. So I assumed that this comment about snapping applied to the generated text clips. From your demo video, I can see that you are talking about the movable text in the subtitle bar. I did not implement snapping in the subtitle bar. Those are not “clips”. They are just a representation of the subtitle items that are selected in the Subtitle pane.
It is good to keep each suggestion in a separate topic. Feel free to make a new topics for subtitle snapping.
