It’s consistently splitting the track several seconds of normal (uncompressed) video time away from the playhead. Is this a known issue? Is this me? How can I fix this. Please help.
Maybe you are splitting immediately after you seek, but seeking is not always instantaneous. When you click to seek, observe how long it takes for it to go there. Are you waiting that long before you split?
Do you visually see this problem on the timeline (the rectangle does not split at the white vertical line), or is the problem is that the video is not split, starting, or stopping where you want?
