[SOLVED] Shotcut crashes when using the color picker for the white balance

Edit: “As a workaround you can try click the color block next to the dropper icon to open the color dialog and use the Pick Screen Color in there.”

Hello Shotcut community,

while running the latest Shotcut (240829) as an appimage in Debian 12, I can’t adjust the white balance properly because Shocut crashes when clicking on a neutral color with the color picker. Any idea or things i could do?

Thank you.

I have not reproduced it on Pop!_OS 22.04 running X.
Are you running Wayland? If so and you logout and log into a X session does it work?
Did or does a previous AppImage version work?

As a workaround you can try click the color block next to the dropper icon to open the color dialog and use the Pick Screen Color in there.

I just reproduced it in a Wayland session, but the previous version AppImage does not crash but rather only returns black as described here:

The reason it crashes in the new version is because there were some missing bundled Qt 6.4 Wayland integration libraries that was causing a crash on startup on other distros or newer versions of distros. A startup crash is far more severe.

Another reason it crashes is because the portable, AppImage, and Snap all use an older version 6.4 version of Qt that is used to provide compatibility with older distros such as Debian 11 and Ubuntu 20.04.

The Flatpak uses Qt 6.7, and does not have the crash on Wayland–only the black result regardless of what was picked.

Hi and thank you very much. I have been having this problem for a while now, regardless of which version of Shotcut I had. Your alternative procedure (using Pick screen color from the color dialog) works, that’s great news for me. Have a nice day.
