Snap 26.1.6 fails to load videos or projects

The new Shotcut, ver. 26.1.6, won’t correctly read the MLT files created on the last December 23. The OS is Ubuntu 24.03.3 LTS. When I opened such an MLT file, a totally funny image appears on the preview screen. It seems that the screen synchronization, or image scanning synchronization, is lost. Since I found the following line in the MLT files, I selected manually “HD 1080p 25 fps” mode, but any intelligible image does not appear.

Of course, I tested all the image modes in the image mode selection, without any improvement.

Please teach me what should I do.

Thank you.

I uninstalled the snap that was installed automatically in the last update and then installed the shotcut anew. However, the troublesome situation is unchanged. As an experiment, I tryed to export a jpeg out but the exporting process stops with the following log.

“mlt_repository_init: failed to dlopen /snap/shotcut/2076/lib/mlt-7/libmltavformat.so”

However, the library is installed at the right place and the read permission for all is set.

What should I do. Please show me.

Thank.

That is a big problem. I have a machine with Ubuntu 24.04. If you are technical and want to troubleshoot:

  1. cd /snap/shotcut/current
  2. source source-me
  3. ldd lib/mlt-7/libmltavformat.so
  4. Look for missing libraries.
  5. Install them.

I found missing on a virtual machine is libva-x11-2 and libva-drm2. It does not matter if you are using Wayland, you still need these libs for Shotcut. If you really resist to install those libs, use the Flatpak instead. It is even more self-contained than the Snap.

libva for VA-API hardware encoding is no longer included. This was key to improve compatibility of VA-API, which is going to be used even more in the next release.

Shortcut seems to work properly now.

Thank you, so much.
