I’m trying to temporarily slow down the clips on the timeline of an animation project to better match video to audio. I don’t see a “speed” option under the properties tab for a selected clip. Is there a way to do this? A Google search said it’s possible, but I don’t see any speed or pitch compensation option.
It’s right at the top. But this isn’t a “temporary” property. This property will change the length of the clip in the project/timeline.
For temporary slow playback in the player, what a lot of people do is rapidly (or slowly) tap the right arrow key. You can even hold the right arrow key and let “key repeat” on your computer step the frames slower than real time.
Hmm, that’s not what I see when I click on Properties. I must be in the wrong menu, or not have something expanded correctly:
Speed is not available for an image animation. You are seeing properties for an image. You can convert the image animation to a video if you want. Otherwise, press and hold arrow keys to repeat stepping frame by frame, which is often slower than normal.
Your clip is being opened as an image, instead of a video. What kind of file is it?
Ahh, yes- it’s an image. Selecting the audio clip, DOES bring up the correct menu, so I’ll try playing with that. If I slow down the audio, it should be easier to match the many mouth drawings I have to it. Thanks
Unfortunately I can’t slow down the audio without it becoming out of sync with the animation image clips, since it changes the duration of the audio clip but not the size of the image clips. So, I can’t in effect slow down the playback cursor to better match still images with the changes in audio voices. I’m not sure if there is a way to do what I’m trying to do here.
You can try using Krita. It supports animation, audio, and playback speed. But I cannot help you with how to use it.
Right. So you just want to slow down the preview playback. Did you try the arrow key as I suggested?
Sorry, no, I wasn’t sure what you meant by that. I thought you were talking about the arrow keys that move the cursor 1 frame at a time, which doesn’t achieve smooth audio playback. I can get things close enough for my needs just playing with the various still images- moving them around and changing their lengths- at regular playback speed. It’s not crucial that they match perfectly, it just takes some time and is tough to get right at normal playback speed and long voice over clips.
Maybe I’ll check it out, thank you.
Also, I zoom in on the audio clip and try to ascertain where certain mouth sounds begin and try to come up with an image with the correct mouth shape at that spot- works pretty well.
Rapid tapping on the forward arrow key does a good enough job, thanks brian
