Hi, i was thinking about some user and most of my students (Grade 4-12), that doesnt need all the features and find its scary to see lots of buttons, but also like the way how Shotcut works.
can the button or the interface be modified to be hidden so we can see some important things only and make it more “clean” from advance features?
maybe some option to customize the interface and save the interface file so it can be import (duplicate) to other computer
or maybe other Shotcut version (which have somekind of Wizard menu (how many clip, what theme, how long, what text to be inserted, then preview) if they want to edit then they can choose the basic mode (fade in/out, crop/resize, special effect, text, all the simple and most needed one), or they can open the full interface.
but all in all, Shotcut have been a very helpful to me and mu students. thank you so so so so much for this software!
As a teacher, you have full control over simplifying the Shotcut experience for your students without needing a separate “Lite” version. By following these steps, you can create a “Clean Mode” that makes the software much less intimidating for beginners:
Customize the Workspace: You can hide advanced panels (like “Jobs” or “Scope”) and keep only the essentials: Playlist, Filters, and Timeline. Use the View menu to save this as a Custom Layout so you can quickly restore it if students change something.
Create a Default Project Template: You can force Shotcut to open with a specific setup every time.
-
Start Shotcut and set your preferred Video Mode (e.g., 1080p 30fps).
-
Add the exact number of Video and Audio tracks you want your students to use. Save this file as AppDataDir_untitled_.mlt.
-
Result: When students open the app, they aren’t met with a blank screen; they get your pre-configured theme with ready-to-use tracks.
Share Settings Across Computers: Once you have the perfect “Lite” setup, you can copy the shotcut.ini file or the entire AppData directory to all classroom computers. This ensures every student starts with the same clean, simplified interface.
Simplify the Timeline: You can right-click the main toolbar to hide specific icons or even hide the Title Bars of individual panels to maximize the “clean” look.
