Shotcut is cropping inserted videos

I am currently making a compilation of old homemade videos. I am importing them to my PC from a DVD as .VOB files and dragging them into my timeline. Today I noticed that the videos are longer when I watch them in VLC player and when they are imported into my Shotcut project timeline, they are missing a significant portion of the video. I tried updating updating Shotcut (I am on the most recent version as far as I am aware) and also importing via the playlist rather than dragging in from File Explorer.

The ONLY thing I noticed, which could be unrelated, is that in File Explorer, one of the videos says it is 17 seconds long (00:00:17) but it is more like 17 minutes long. I have tried re-importing the .VOB file from the disc again too, but it didn’t fix it.

I really have no idea what is going on and I am a complete beginner so I would be very grateful for any help I can get! Thanks in advance

OS: Windows 10 Pro

Shotcut version: 25.01.25

Hi @rosieee42

I quickly browsed these two topics and even if they don’t seem to bring a real solution, you should find useful informations about this problem

It’s been a number of years since I tried. But the last time I tried to edit VOB files, I had to use the “Convert…” option to get editable files.

Thanks everyone. I think this was a corrupted header on the video file, I converted it to mp4 and that tricked it into correcting the video length - so this was not a problem with Shotcut.
