I can export clip with hardware hevc_qsv encoder, but h264_qsv never moves past 0 progress. All settings at default.
Copy paste here the failed log with: Right click → View log on the job. There’s usually an incompatible codec parameter that the hardware encoder doesn’t support, maybe b-frames or 10 bit.
Worse yet: when changing codec, nothing moves on Advanced tab, it’s:
movflags=+faststart
pix_fmt=p010le
preset=medium
vprofile=main10
vtag=hvc1
load_plugin=hevc_hw
If you use the presets it does change and the default presets are usually guaranteed to be compatible.
But if you manually change the codec and you are in the advanced mode, it won’t. This has been discussed many times, the advanced options are by design so you can write anything and experiment. It’s impossible to add checks as the amount of combination of codecs x options x operating system x hardware is huge.
The “p010le” in this tells me you are probably in a 10-bit processing mode in Settings. The “main10” profile is an HEVC profile. You cannot use an HEVC profile with a H.264. It’s not our rules; it is per the open standards.
No hardware encoders support 10-bit in H.264. If you are in a 10-bit processing mode in Settings, the export defaults to 10-bit HEVC. If you want to export 8-bit H.264 from a 10-bit processing mode, as Daniel wrote, first use a preset. I recommend H.264 High Profile. If you choose the ten_bit/H.264 High 10 Profile (vprofile=high10), then Shotcut automatically turns off the hardware encoder for you to facilitate a successful export.
Yes understood already. My wrong guess that codec change should update other parameters to default. If not possible, then nothing to do, will keep this in mind.
Thanks
