Shotcut Fails to Open Project File

I am running Shotcut ver 23.09.29 under Linux 22.04.05 LTS. My computer has 16 GB RAM. Reported available disk space is approx 32 GB (using df command).

When I try to open my project file, I get the message “Failed to open [project file name]” I have attached the log file. It appears to me that the project file is failing the MltXmlChecker.

Do I have a corrupt MLT file? If so, how can I repair it? Or is there a way to load the file bit by bit until I come to the bad part?

shotcut-log.txt (36.6 KB)

Have you ever been able to open this project?

[Debug  ] <MltXmlChecker::check> QList("Shotcut", "version", "23.09.29")
[Debug ] <MltXmlChecker::check> "/home/rjw/Videos/DC or DCC? You CAN Have Both!/shotcut-CSNUmM.mlt"
[Debug  ] <MltXmlChecker::check> end ""

No errors. The third line empty quotes means there was no XML parsing error.

The problem is that you entered a lot of punctuation into the project name in Shotcut. You need to rename the folder and the file to remove the ?s. I will change Shotcut to not let you put those.

Well, despite the fact that I feel like an idiot, there is an upside: this gave me the incentive to upgrade to the latest version!
