I just want to share with you how I use my small midi keyboard Alesis V-mini as a controller for Shotcut. I’m currently working on Ubuntu, but I did the same in windows.
Here the configuration:
I just printed this image, cut-out and put on the keyboard. In other side, I created a python file to associate midi note to Shotcut shortcuts 
(don’t hesitate to ask me if you are interested, I can’t put it here). On windows, I did it with midi Key2Key.
It works pretty well.
