A very frustrating problem has come up when trying to open an old project
This has opened ONCE, after I had to relocate the source video file, the project began loading, then Shotcut crashed
Subsequently, I could never get that far, right after relocation, it just closes
I have: Moved source files back to where they originally were
Turned off any GPU options, even for things like preview
Turned off proxy files
Re-installed Shotcut (though not completely wiped the directory)
Cleared log files
I am not sure what else to do, I find the idea that the project is now corrupted hard to believe, there are actually 2 in there, slightly different edits
These files have not been treated any differently to any other project in that set of folders
I would ideally like to not lose access to that project, I have opened it before not too long ago, nothing has changed, other projects load
I have attached the log file in case it will help at all
I’m seeing this at the very end of the log file you shared: [Error ] <Mlt::Controller::saveXML> failed to open MLT XML file for writing "F:/Personal Files/Creative/Video/YouTube/Channels/PiperTheGreat/UNFINISHED/Animalia/Animalia_test_2 - Copy.mlt". Does that path exist and can Shotcut write to it?
I don’t know if that’s the issue per se, but it can’t be helping…
Yeah, path exists, but I wonder if it’s still too long or complex, having said that total character length is less that half of 256, and even does this when loading the file fresh, from the root of another drive, I wonder if it is purely the file, but as I say, it never did this about a year ago when I first edited this project
For now it seems to be just this clip, but it seems to be fine, it plays ok in other stuff, loads into Shotcut to preview it, and by all accounts it is fine
It has been moved between volumes, so I don’t know if some damage has occurred along the way, trying at the moment to split the file into video and audio, then put it back together in a new container… we’ll see how that goes
Yeah, I believeffmpeg comes with shotcut? I don’t use Windows much, so I don’t know whether you have to install it separately or not (or where it’s installed). But yeah, this is something you can run on the command-line which essentially does what you just did, I think (copy both the audio and video streams without conversion into a new file, essentially preserving the audio/video and rebuilding the container, which might fix some types of issues).
Well, I have an update, while the file rebuild did initially work, this has gone the same way…. Not sure if it was because I moved it back to the new location it’s supposed to be in, or if there’s something else going on… But I launch Shotcut, pull in the raw file, it waits for a few seconds, and it crashes. Seemed to get in to problems when doing the audio waveform. This is annoying
Hmm, interesting. If you go back to a previous version of Shotcut, delete Local AppData for Shotcut, and retry with the same file, do you get the same issue?
Well, we might have a fix here, I went two versions back to 25.10, loaded the original project file, with the original source video, and it loaded right up, and stayed stable, was able to edit the video more
Could have gone back only one, to version 25.12, and I still could test this, but I think for now, this works, so I’ll carry on
Yeah, I can’t be 100% sure, but it really looks like that, it was loading in very slowly, and then just gave up and the whole thing crashed, this older version is very nimble and quick with that
