Shotcut 25.10.31 on Windows: Long time to open on first launch,

Morning

So I did a search online and then in this forum for any other instance of someone having the same issue as me. In short when I first launch Shotcut is taking 1-2mins to launch, but on subsequent launches its 1-2 seconds.

Shotcut has always taken a while to load first launch (loading plugins), but not normally this slow.

System specs:

  • Win10 22H2
  • 9800X3D
  • RTX4080
  • Sabrent Rocket 4plus 2TB
  • 32GB DDR5-6000

If this is expected behaviour then fair enough. If not, is there anything I can do to speed it up?

many thanks.

It is normal. Windows plus any third party virus scanners will do extra analysis on program and each of its DLL, which there is a lot, the first time you run them after install. In addition, the OS does some caching, and if you reboot the caches are flushed. So, the first time after a reboot takes longer than usual.

So I tried something with this version that had not been done with previous versions and that was to use RevoUninstaller to uninstall the program and crucially also do a scan from left over files and reg entries etc.

Doing this ‘appeared’ fixed the lag on launch, but then the lag came back. So I added the entire folder to the exclusions list in my A/V client and SC seems to launch quickly again cold boot or not.
