Setting record audio source

I’m trying to record some voice over. I can set the audio device in File/Open Other (it’s an external Focusrite Pro40 interface) but when I click the microphone icon I get an error message saying Set Audio Device. I’ve tried picking the mic in the webcam and that doesn’t work either.

I’m using the latest Shortcut version on a Mac Mini with Catalina. Any ideas? Do I need to do something in the Mac OS?

But did you click the Open button in that dialog, and observe it open the audio input in the Source player and hear something or see the audio meters light up? If you cancel or close the dialog, the change is not applied. You can also try to use Settings > Audio/Video Device.
