I think it would be useful to be able to select all the clips in a track (and possibly in all tracks) after or before the cursor location, so to move them forward or back to make space for another clip you may want to add in the middle of the timeline.

To do what you want, simply turn on ripple mode and drag a clip and it will push or pull all of the following clips automatically. If you want to do that across all tracks including making cuts where necessary to accomplish it, turn on ripple all tracks mode. There are 2 buttons on the timeline toolbar for this that you can find using the tooltips.
