Repeating video without Copy+Paste

Hey, switching over from Sony Vegas here. In Vegas, one feature I’m sorely missing is the ability to use a looping video when editing in the timeline. Meaning that if I stretch the clip past its actual duration, it will simply play from the beginning. Useful for clips with a seamless loop that need to repeat multiple times, like, say, an animated watermark.

Does Shotcut have an equivalent to this feature?

I can’t find it. I have to copy and paste the clip multiple times. Which does work, but getting the duration right and applying filters has quickly become a chore. The only workaround seems to be to export a longer version of the video clip and use that instead. But having to do that for dozens of clips is going to quickly become very time consuming — not to mention the file sizes.

Not available. Well, there is an inconvenient workaround:

  • extend Properties > Duration
  • extend clip out point
  • use the Time Remap filter keyframes to return to 0 every N seconds

Clever workaround. Maybe we could make a preset or button to do that. Something to think about for the future.
