I’m a Porteus user and I can’t run the program because it needs “JACK”, although for video editing is never used in any distribution, because it turns out that is NEVER the sound server.
Meanwhile they keep saturating it with unnecessary things like automatic subtitle generators, which at the moment is not functional, even if it were it would not be perfect.
Please fix that, it is a very mature program, even better than OpenShot… in fact it reminds me of OpenMovieEditor!
OK, that is being included because there is File > Open Other > JACK for audio capture. I agree that is a very rarely used feature to add this as a hard dependency. Moreover, the hard dependency is not needed to continue to have the option to use JACK for sound output or transport sync (Settings > Player > Use JACK). In the version after the next Shotcut will drop the JACK capture feature and hard dependency. (But it will optionally include the output feature at run time if JACK library happens to be available on the system.)
In the meantime, give the Flatpak a try. I do not know how difficult that is on Porteus.
Well, in Porteus everything works like a charm, on a base system of just 400 MB!
Appimage:
Kdenlive (2018/2022)
Avidemux XnView(preferably 0.89)
QMplay2
Kazam
Gimp Inkscape Krita
LibreOffice
ShotCut is SUPER light compared to Kdenlive, so far I’m surviving with Avidemux too.
God willing JACK won’t bother me anymore, thanks!
