Quality decrease after changing Video Mode

Hi, dear community. I’ve encountered a problem after changing Video Mode the quality drops significantly. I understand that probably it should happen, but I can’t find a way to find a work around. Let me explain step by step what is exactly the problem and what I’m trying to achieve. I’m going to attach mlt files just in case.
Unfortunately, I’m not able to show you everything because of:

An error occurred: Sorry, new users can only put one embedded media item in a post.

  1. When I create a project, Video Mode is HD 1080p 60 fps, then I add video (or image) to the playlist. At this point quality is perfect.

  2. However, if I create another project (or use existing one) and set Video Mode to Vertical HD 60 fps and zoom it, the quality is so bad that I’m not able to read text anymore.

Unfortunately, I’m not able to upload multiple attachments, so I would like to highlight that in case #1 the quality is perfect and text is readable more than enough.

Why do I need this? I’m creating Shorts so Vertical mode is needed for me and such quality drop is very significant.

What are my expectations? I want to find a way to persist quality of image / video with vertical Video Mode.

P.S. I’ve been using Shotcut for a year and ofc it’s not the first question I had, the previous issues I was able to fix by existing topics on forum, google or YouTube, but regarding this one my own research didn’t give me any progress for quite long period, so I’ve decided to ask for a help.

Best regards.

Perfect quality project:
Vertical Video Mode.mlt (1.6 KB)

Poor quality project:
Normal Video Mode.mlt (4.0 KB)

In both of the projects you uploaded, Shotcut says the dimensions of Capture.png are 181x60

So about that size:
9ozf2ksyO6

That wouldn’t look very sharp in any HD project, horizontal or vertical

From your project file, the image size you are using is 1510x915.

When you use a 1080 video mode, the width is 1920x1080. By default your image will be scaled to fit the video mode. You need to apply a filter to force the actual size of your image.

When you use a Vertical video mode preset, it’s 1080x1920, your image will be scaled in size to a width of 1080, instead of 1510.

Looks like it works, I’m very unexperienced and still don’t quite understand what is going on, but very appreciate your help.

Thank you very much!
