Project export experiments

Dear Community,

I would like to share with you same odd results which I’ve got with Shotcut version 25.08.16.

i was a bit frustrated by getting slow export speeds; an 8 minute podcast would take 26 minutes or more to export.

Project: 3 video tracks; one 4K and the other 2 Full HD with Size, Position & Rotate and Color grading filters and 2 audio wav tracks with Audio Gain filters.

Test results:

ORIGINAL - 220 MB - 26:09
TEST-NO_AUDIO - 26:53
TEST-NO-RESIZE - 05:53 - WOW!
TEST-NO_COLOUR_GRADING - 25:43
4K-2-HD-1ST-TRACK (HD-NO_FILTERS) - 2:21 - Only 4K track was exported
1ST-TRACK (HD-WITH_FILTERS)- 10:43 - Only 4K track was exported
TEST-WITH-4K-2-HD-1ST-TRACK-NO_FILTERS - 7:34 -4K track replaced with HD
TEST-WITH-4K-2-HD-1ST-TRACK-WITH_FILTERS (ALL HD TRACKS) - 09:04 - 4K track replaced with HD - BEST_CONTRAST_AND COLOURS!
TEST-WITH-1ST-TRACK-NO FILTERS (ALL HD TRACKS) - 07:40
ORIGINAL WITH VAAPI - 10:03 - 186.2 MB -WOW!

So, if I export the 4K footage using the HP profile without filters - 2:21 and then adding it to the project and exporting it with the filters - 9:04 - I will get the fastest CPU only project export performance.

Using the old AMD based GPU surpasses even that “tweak”.

Playing both CPU and VAAPI videos side by side on HD screens, I cannot see any difference… There is some loss due to smaller file size but I couldn’t tell the difference…

Well, I have a modest Lenovo “ThinkCentre M78” APU and it runs very smoothly in altlinux or Porteus, exporting in HEVC.

4K is a trend like tattoos.; I’d opt to convert the video later if you want “show” to the world UHDTV. No one will notice the trick:
// When in Rome → the Promise > REMASTERED IN HD!

Use MJPEG
