Progressively reducing the brightness

Hi, I’m simply trying to see if there’s a way to progressively reduce the bightness of a video in order to make a text stand out while avoiding the sudden cut in the video from one brightness level to another. Sorry if the question was already answered somewhere, I tried to look everywhere but couldn’t find any answer

There are a few ways to do this.
Here’s one:

You need to apply a Brightness filter to your clip and use keyframes to darken the video when you want to display your text.
