i just registered because i have a problem with keyboard shortcuts (specifically I and O) on macos for quite some time.
i’m on macos v15.2, shotcut v24.01.31. the problem is reproducable. i add a video and afterwards when i click into the timeline of the player i can still use keyboard shortcuts “I” (trim clip in) and “O” (trim clip out). but when i click into the time and use up and down keys to finely change the time the kb-shortcuts “I” and “O” don’t work anymore. i work around it by going through the menue “Player” and click on it there, but its much slower. if i click into the timeline of the player again the kb-shortcuts “I” and “O” are working again. so it seems that the kb-shortcuts aren’t working when using the time display of the player with the arrow keys.
is this a bug or do i have to change a setting in shotcut to make it work?
When certain fields have focus they do not allow you to enter keyboard shortcuts without modifier keys such as Ctrl or Alt. Partly, because it is not a strictly numeric field. It needs to accept the time delimiters. All you need to do is move focus out of the field. You can press Tab or click the player.
thanks to your answer i have a solution. using TAB and SHIFT+TAB to change focus and to get the focus back works, but there is a better solution. i made new secondary keyboard shortcuts for I (STRQ+I) and O (STRG+O) and now i can use them even if the focus is on the time display.
why does STRG+I and STRG+O work when the focus is on the time display and I and O doesn’t work with the focus on the time display?
yes you did, thanks!
well, i think i hoped for an answer with a more detailed explanation because it hasn’t always been like that with shotcut. i still use an old windows 8.1 desktop pc with an old shotcut version where the keyboard shotcuts “I” and “O” also work when the focus is on the time. i can look the version number up in january when i come back home where my pc stands.
