Using the Search function I cannot see that this has been asked for previously. My apologies if it has.
My preferred graphics/multimedia apps often have a “Previous Zoom” feature on the Timeline which would make my life SO much easier in Shotcut as I am forever zooming in to tweak something and then having to play with the Zoom - (out) to get the view back to what I had it before. Something like this is what I envision :
Were this to be added in a future version, somebody else might want that to be expanded to a “Previous/Next” Zoom feature, which I wouldn’t shoot down either but I’m not looking to push the envelope THAT far .
(If there is already such a feature and I haven’t found it, please feel free to shoot me!!)
Many thanks in advance for your consideration of this feature !
Assume you found the perfect zoom for general work (zoom 0). Then, you need to zoom in to see a detail. So you zoom a little (zoom 1). Nope, not enough. So you zoom some more (zoom 2). Nope, still not right. One more zoom (zoom 3) - perfect! Now there have been three zoom operations since you were at the “perfect zoom”. Which one is registered as the “previous”? How should Shotcut know that zoom 0 is what you want to go back to, and not zoom 2?
Maybe it would be a single operation to “toggle zoom” between two values.
Valid point. However, I personally would be happy that if you click “Previous zoom” it would do for Zoom what clicking the “Undo” button does for everything else, you simply go backwards in zoom history states. I imagine the number of zoom states should be fairly low (memory issues?) but maybe configurable in “Settings”. In any event, if you exceed the number of zoom history states (even if devs decide that number is fixed at 1) then the button is greyed out/disabled. I am used to clicking the Back and Forward Zoom in my graphics app to zoom in and out on my subject for detail work and then to get an overview of the result. Would be great to have this in Shotcut.
Maybe instead of a Previous zoom button, we could have a Preferred zoom button? With a right-click on the button the set the preferred zoom value maybe, if it’s possible. If not, it could be set somewhere in the Timeline menu.
