Precision trimming in the Player

Hi there, it seems I’m missing something, but I didn’t find an answer on the interwebs.

One of the great features of Shotcut is what I call “smart trimming”, i.e., adding a clip to the playlist, double-click on the clip, and then trim it using the mouse and the arrows on the left and right to ‘trim’ the clip to the portion that’s needed, without discarding the rest, so I can always go back to the original and choose another part. That’s fantastic! Other video editors have found different ways to provide something like this, but I like the Shotcut way the most, because it’s so flexible. So far, so good.

However, I can’t figure out a way to “smart trim” a clip using the arrow keys on a keyboard to go frame-by-frame or a numerical value to move the playhead in the Player and then “smart trim” the clip there. There must be a keyboard shortcut or a menu entry somewhere, but I can’t find it.

Does anybody have an answer? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Thank you, @MusicalBox , but I need to know where I can ‘smart trim’ the clip in the player at the position of the playhead.

Could you explain what you mean by “smart trim” ?

@MusicalBox Yes, I explained it in my original post ;). What I want to know is where I can cut/trim the clip in the Player at the position of the playhead. That’s all.

Since (I think) you mentioned it in another post, you already know about the “i” and “o” shortcuts to cut/trim in and out. What I don’t understand is how different you want these actions to be.

@MusicalBox the shortcuts you mentioned work in the timeline but not in the Player. That’s my problem.

@Birdchaser
You lost me again. You’re saying that the “i ” and “o ” shortcuts aren’t working in the Source Player?

@MusicalBox I guess my computer was just overheated from all the rendering I had done in recent weeks or whatever. Yes i/o works as expected. I’m sorry for wasting your time.
